Where Credit is Due
Decades of Republican leadership have made Morris Township’s quality of life the envy of the county. Because of its frugal, disciplined leadership, Morris Township — with a local tax rate half that of Democrat-controlled Morristown, for example — provides a full range of services that people want and that many towns don’t offer, including:
- 5 Active volunteer Fire Companies
- Professional and responsive Police Department that earned rare National Accreditation.
- Extensive and expanding recreation programs for people of all ages, including 20 sites with fields, 9 tennis courts, and 2 Olympic size swim pools, recently remodeled and modernized.
- Environmentally responsible recycling and waste disposal program, including leaf pickup, a service many local towns don’t provide.
- Health screening services, including male and female cancer clinics, flu shots and other vaccinations for Seniors, and rabies clinics for our cats and dogs.
- Under Republican leadership, Morris Township has undertaken a multi-year program to acquire open space, culminating in the fact that approximately 25% of the Township's 15.45 square miles is now committed to open space in various formats. The recent acquisition of 188 acres of the St. Mary's Abbey — Delbarton property, following several years of delicate negotiations, illustrates our leadership's focus and commitment to this important feature of Morris Township's residential character.
